In May 2001 Nelson Mandela visited Magdalene to receive his honorary fellowship. In Hall after Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika and the speeches we sang Mbube, which had been taught to us by the Viola Men's Chorus in Port Elizabeth. Mandela stood up and started to dance, echoing our swaying, and soon had the whole room on its feet. Jongi Klaas then spontaneously performed a traditional tribute.
